She was initially inspired by shadows cast on grass. Months later she devised a process that did not create the object she chose onto canvas in an image that was flat. It is more like the object has been transformed into it's own representation with the canvas taking its interpretation from the artist. This is especially effective for objects that are living as well as items that have a shelf life like fruits and people. Alexa's style of painting exhibits a hazy quality the only thing left of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. The painting and the photographic techniques are so tightly coordinated and result in an unflat, 2-dimensional space which is able to achieve trompe-l'oeil. In this, the third dimension is discernible only in specific areas like near the eyes or hair. Meade occasionally integrates painted models within the surrounding space. This allows them to engage with the environment the artist has constructed. The distinctions between performance photography, installation and painting is thus broken.
